In July 1990 the East Field at Alton Barnes in Wiltshire took a wheat pictogram laid flat in a night, a double-ringed complex that photographers found at dawn. Doug Bower and Dave Chorley had already shown a plank can lay a circle. Alton Barnes is why the later argument moved from simple rounds to designs that look designed. No craft sat in the corn. The laid wheat is the object.
