Opening

From 1974 the Smurl family in West Pittston, Pennsylvania, reported a house that went wrong: smells, sounds, a presence they took to the Warrens and then to the papers. Jack and Janet Smurl named rooms. Ed and Lorraine Warren sat. In 1986 Robert Curran wrote a book. Demonic is the word the circuit used. Neighbours and a later sceptical look, including people around Paul Kurtz's shop, treated it as a family story that wanted an audience. Finding
