Opening

In 2014 Latoya Ammons and her children left a house on Carolina Street in Gary, Indiana, after nights she said involved possession, levitation talk, and a boy who walked backward up a wall. A Department of Child Services caseworker and a GP sat in the later paper. Captain Charles Austin of Gary police took an interest. A 2014 Indianapolis Star investigation by Marisa Kwiatkowski put the family, the hospital, and a landlord on one page. The house was later demolished. Demolition is not a verdict. It is what the city did with the address.

Sceptics pointed at a family already in trouble and at a story that grew once cameras arrived. Believers pointed at a police captain and a caseworker who would not laugh on the record. No instrument from those rooms sits in a lab chain. The Star piece is the public tray.
