TAHOE TESSIE

Opening

Lake Tahoe is deep enough to keep a story. Tahoe Tessie is the name the papers and later tourist desks hung on wakes and dark lines off the California-Nevada water. Sightings cluster. No carcass has come to a South Lake lab as a new species. Folden's Okanagan reel is a sister object on another lake. This card is Tahoe's own wake file, not a borrowed Champ.

The lake is working water: boats, clarity that changes, a trench that swallows light. A wake is cheap. A type is not.

The spine of the file is a named wake and no body. Tessie is Tahoe talk. It is not a hide in a Tahoe City freezer.

Timeline

Twentieth-century clusters under the Tessie name. Older Washoe water-being talk sits as older water.

Photographs and later clips circulate. None close a species.

Tourist desks keep the name. Researchers keep not finding a carcass.

Later lists borrow Champ language. That borrow is later life. Tahoe's own wakes are first.

Lake Tahoe is deep working water with wake clusters later lists call Tessie. Photographs of water folds travelled. No carcass sat on a Nevada or California shore as that animal.

A deep lake will make wakes. A type would be a body on a beach. The beach has not produced one this card will stamp.

Key figures

Shore and boat witnesses own the wakes.

Local press owns the name as a proper noun.

Washoe tradition owns older water that is not this postcard.

The lake owns depth that will not give a body cheaply.

Physical and documentary trail

On the paper, the modern cluster gives you four hard objects and no type.

One: repeated wake and dark-line reports.

Two: photographs and clips under the Tessie name.

Three: the absence of a carcass.

Four: tourist and press naming. Lake Tahoe press on Tessie sightings, is the modern tray.

There is no specimen. There is no frame a lab will sign as unknown. There is no second camera on the best wake.

Wake clusters and no carcass are the stay-behinds. A body with a lake chain would finish Tessie. A photograph a lab will sign as unknown would finish the other door.

Something long moved under the wake and then it was only water.

Competing explanations

An unknown lake animal. This is the name. It has wakes. It has no body.

Logs, waves, known fish, boat wash. The mundane door. Has to carry why clusters keep the same shape in talk.

A borrowed Champ. Weak against local water that did not need Vermont.

Hybrid caution. A deep lake makes wakes. Morning has no hide on the sand.

Later life of the case

Gift-shop Tessie. I keep that on the later-life shelf. The wakes stay first.

Finding

People on Lake Tahoe have reported long wakes under the name Tessie, and no carcass has closed the name. Believe the wakes as wakes. A working lake does not invent a line on the water only for a sticker.

What still will not resolve: a body with a Tahoe chain, or a frame a lab will sign. Either one would pin the name. The proving object is still that shape under the wake, held as log or as animal by more than a postcard.
