Opening

On the night of 7 November 1974 Sandra Rivett, nanny in the Belgravia house of John Bingham, 7th Earl of Lucan, was beaten to death. Lucan's wife Veronica was wounded. Lucan appeared at friends in Sussex, spoke of a catastrophe, and left. His Ford was found at Newhaven. A bloodstained car and a peer who knew the Channel sat in the paper. He was never tried. He was never produced. In 2016 a death certificate was issued so the title could move. Sightings did the work a body did not.

Lucan is a murder, a car at a port, and no dock. Keep later Africa stories on the later shelf unless a chain holds.

A peer who killed and ran to water. This is the inquest weather. It has a car. It has no body.

A peer who was killed after and hidden. Offered. No second dock.

A long life under another name. The sighting door. Has to carry decades without a chain.

Hybrid caution. A nanny was murdered. A car sat at a port. The title moved without a grave.

Sandra Rivett was murdered in Belgravia on 7 November 1974, Lucan vanished after a stop in Sussex, and his car sat at Newhaven. Believe the house. Believe the nanny. A murder desk does not invent a peer for a later sighting.

What still will not resolve: remains with a chain, or a living man who will stand up. Either one would pin the port. The proving object is still that body, held as dead or as hidden, not as another Africa story.
