Opening

From 2012 a signed trail of puzzles appeared on the internet under the name Cicada 3301: images, runes, later physical paper in cities, a PGP signature that held. The stated test was to find intelligent people. No employer stood up at the end of the first runs. People who passed rooms went quiet or told only fragments. Later copycat seasons used the name without the signature. The signature is the file. The job offer is the gap.

Cicada is a recruitment aesthetic that may have been recruitment. Keep the signed years separate from the unsigned imitators.

The spine of the file is a PGP trail and no named desk. Cicada 3301 is 2012 paper. It is not a confirmed Agency shop on a letterhead.

An art project that liked secrecy. Possible. Has to carry physical paper in several countries.

Finding

A signed puzzle trail calling itself Cicada 3301 ran from 2012, put paper in cities, and never stood up an employer. Believe the signature as a signature. A poster on a lamp-post does not invent a PGP key for a later copycat.

What still will not resolve: a letterhead, or a signed statement that the first season was only art. Either one would pin the desk. The proving object is still that employer, named, not another unsigned image.
