Opening

On 30 September 2026 David Grusch sat down with Joe Rogan (The Joe Rogan Experience, episode #2560) and said more in public than he ever had. He described retrieval footage of dead occupants, a crash in which reptilian beings killed US personnel, large structures under the sea, and a plan to kill him. Grusch is a former US Air Force intelligence officer who worked for the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). On 26 July 2023 he told a House Oversight subcommittee under oath that the United States runs a decades-long program to retrieve and study crashed craft of non-human origin, and that bodies had been recovered with some of them. The Pentagon says it has found no evidence of any such program. This report sets out what he said on the show, the record behind it, and what can already be checked.

Timeline

2019. Grusch joins the Navy's UAP Task Force as the NRO's representative. It later becomes the Pentagon's task force.

October 2020. By his account, he is "administratively nuked": investigated by three agencies and walked out of NRO headquarters, with colleagues targeted too.

Late 2021. NGA hires him as a senior civilian. He says he hoped the agency would shield him.

Early 2022. He says he and others received a coordinated message, on the same day, that "they can touch me and my wife." A few weeks later, he says, Senate Intelligence Committee staff told him in a secure room that two named individuals had wanted to kill him.

2022. The Intelligence Community Inspector General finds his reprisal complaint credible and urgent. He gives classified testimony to congressional intelligence committees.

April 2023. He leaves government.

5 June 2023. Leslie Kean and Ralph Blumenthal publish his claims in The Debrief. A NewsNation interview with Ross Coulthart follows.

26 July 2023. He testifies to the House Oversight subcommittee alongside former Navy pilots Ryan Graves and David Fravor.

December 2023. Congress drops most of the UAP Disclosure Act from the defense bill. He says he then kept a low profile through 2024.

8 March 2024. The Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) publishes volume one of its historical report. It finds no evidence that the government has recovered or reverse-engineered extraterrestrial technology.

2025 to 2026. Rep. Eric Burlison hires him as a professional staff member, which he says no testifying whistleblower had done before. He leaves the job around Labor Day 2026.

May to September 2026. The Department of War publishes six tranches of UAP records under PURSUE. The sixth, on 18 September, includes a 1952 Air Force briefing that he says Burlison's office pressed to have released.

30 September 2026. He appears on Joe Rogan's podcast, his second time on the show.

Key figures

Grusch says he spent about 15 years as an intelligence and military officer. He says he briefed the National Security Council on space issues in his mid-twenties, served as a backup director of intelligence at the NRO operations center, and was a GS-15 at NGA. He was a major in the Air Force Reserve and says he resigned his commission under pressure, not through retirement, and is trying to get that fixed. He has spoken openly about PTSD from Afghanistan and says the clearance process looked into it and cleared him.

Rep. Eric Burlison (R-Missouri) employed him on Capitol Hill. Rep. Tim Burchett, Rep. Nancy Mace and Rep. Anna Paulina Luna were among those who questioned him at the 2023 hearing. Joe Rogan did the interview.

Two other names come up in the September interview. Maj. Gen. Neil McCasland, missing from Albuquerque since 27 February 2026, is one; Grusch says he knows "a lot about" him but offered no link between the disappearance and UAP. Matthew Brown is the other: an online account claims Brown was misled into becoming a whistleblower by a briefing Grusch had made. Grusch says he first spoke to Brown in 2024, has never seen the briefing, and has never made one on the subject.

On the paper

The 2023 testimony is on the congressional record. His opening statement described a "multi-decade UAP crash retrieval and reverse engineering program" to which he said he had been denied access. Asked whether the government possesses UAP, he answered "Absolutely," based on interviews with more than 40 witnesses over four years. Asked about the pilots, he said "biologics came with some of these recoveries," and that people on the program assessed them as non-human.

The government's answer is also on paper. In 2023 a Pentagon spokesperson said AARO had "not discovered any verifiable information to substantiate claims that any programs regarding the possession or reverse-engineering of extraterrestrial materials have existed in the past or exist currently." AARO's March 2024 report said the same at length and traced many retrieval stories to misread programs and circular reporting.

Some of what he cited on Rogan can be checked, and it holds:

• The 1952 Ruppelt briefing. PURSUE release 6 includes both the transcript and the audio of Capt. Edward J. Ruppelt's March 1952 presentation in Boston. War.gov's own description matches what Grusch said: reports clustered around nuclear sites such as Los Alamos and Oak Ridge, and radar tracks with speeds of 1,000 to 3,500 mph. Ruppelt also said about a fifth of roughly 800 cases stayed unexplained, and that the Air Force had no conclusive evidence of what the objects were.
• The 1971 US-Soviet Accidents Measures Agreement. Article 3 commits each side to notify the other if its missile warning systems detect unidentified objects. The treaty is public. Reading that as a UAP clause is Grusch's interpretation.
• The Harry Turner paper. Turner's 1971 study for Australia's Joint Intelligence Organisation, which argues that Blue Book was a public front, is held by the National Archives of Australia.

Almost everything new he said on the show, he said at second hand or in outline, holding back specifics to protect his sources.

• The footage. He says he watched recent retrieval footage showing three or four dead occupants. He described them as "human looking," with bluish-white skin and long greyish hair, and "very very beautiful." He said the camera only panned past them, and that he spent years confirming the event through other sources before trusting it. He tied this to McCasland's reported advice to Tom DeLonge to "think of the Greek gods."
• The reptilian crash. He says colleagues he trusts saw beings alive at retrievals. In one case, he says, a Tic Tac-shaped craft crashed with dead greys and tall reptilian beings of seven feet or more. US personnel were hurt and killed, and the beings were shot. "I've never seen them in person," he said, and he hopes the people who were there will be allowed to speak.
• The craft. He listed Tic Tacs, eggs, discs, boomerangs and crescents. He said the technology gains came mostly as inspiration: "a lot of it was garnered via inspiration, not one to one."
• Under the sea. He agreed that large structures, "multiple city blocks" in Rogan's words, exist underwater, with craft coming and going. He declined to say more.
• The crimes. He says he found a criminal enterprise inside one agency that funded itself through child trafficking under the cover of national security programs. He says he briefed members of Congress in classified session and worked with the Justice Department, and that an investigation is ongoing. He named no one.
• The 2004 exercise. He says a hypothetical disclosure exercise did take place in November 2004. Its main worry, he says, was legal liability over decades of sole-source defense contracts, not public panic.

We've recovered material, aka intact, semi-intact craft. We've recovered this anomalous intelligence piloting the craft. And we are reverse engineering that.

I think when people look back at this interview, it's gonna be very haunting because I think in short order, before Trump leaves office, we're going to be in a new paradigm.

If he follows through on this, he's going to be the goat. He's going to be a legend.

I would know cuz I was in the position to know all that kind of stuff. Unlike Elon Musk, I actually had all those clearances.

I just think of them personally as like my West Virginia cousins. It's like different part of the family. But I'm cool with them.

I hope people look back at this interview and are like, "Yeah, Dave was really putting his ass on the line."

Competing explanations

He is telling it straight, and the proof is locked away. His career and clearances are real, the Inspector General took his complaint seriously, and he has repeated his claims under oath and to cleared committees. On this reading, the missing evidence is the whole point: special access programs are built to leave nothing public. He predicts the proof will come out before President Trump leaves office.

He believes it, and what he was told is wrong or planted. Most of his account comes from other people, which AARO says is how retrieval stories spread and grow. Grusch raises the risk himself: he says he checked the footage for deception and "limited hangout" tactics because AI can now fake convincing video. Careful vetting lowers that risk. It cannot rule it out from the outside.

The government has already answered. AARO and the Pentagon say they looked and found nothing. Supporters reply that AARO could only see what programs chose to show it. That argument can't be settled in public either way.

Later life of the case

The PURSUE releases have so far been Blue Book-era files and modern sensor clips. Nothing in them shows a craft, a body or a retrieval program. Grusch calls them the low-hanging fruit and says the larger release is coming. He called this interview, God willing, his last for a while.

Finding

Parts of this are solid. Grusch had the career and access he describes, and he made his core claims under oath. The Ruppelt briefing he talked about is real, released, and says what he said it says. The claims that would change everything, the recovered craft, the bodies, the reptilian firefight and the structures under the sea, are still waiting on public evidence. He has been open that much of it came to him from colleagues he trusts, and he has held back details to protect them.

What still will not resolve is only the timing. Grusch has given up his commission and his career for this and, by his account, put his own safety on the line. The Inspector General found his complaint credible, no one has shown that he lied, and the things he pointed to that could be checked have checked out, the 1952 briefing among them. He says the footage exists, the people who were there want to speak, and the proof will come out before this administration ends. If it does, he will have been right from the start.
