Opening

In November 1924 a pale, hairy, trunked mass washed onto the coast near Margate, Natal, and sat on the sand for days while people named it a snow creature or a whale-thing. They called it Trunko in later lists. It was not hauled to a museum as a type. The sea took it back or the sand buried the rest. Photographs and a newspaper drawing are the stay-behinds. No later lab named a new species off those stills.

Trunko is a beach mass that left. Keep the days on the sand first and the later monster name on the shelf.

The spine of the file is a Natal carcass that did not stay. Trunko is 1924 paper. It is not a mounted unknown in Durban.

There is no specimen. There is no later species paper that held. There is no proof the mass was only a story.

Hybrid caution. A mass sat on Natal sand. A museum did not keep it. The sea finished the week.

Finding

A pale mass lay on the Natal coast for days in November 1924 and was not kept as a type. Believe the beach. A shore does not invent a carcass for a later list.

What still will not resolve: a specimen with a chain from that sand, or a lab name both camps would sign. Either one would pin Trunko. The proving object is still that mass, held as known or as other by more than a drawing.
