Opening
Operation Mongoose was the Kennedy-era CIA and Defence program to sabotage and destabilise Castro's Cuba after the Bay of Pigs. Edward Lansdale sat in the coordinating chair. Task papers filled with ideas that ranged from sugar to more than sugar. Castro stayed. The Missile Crisis sat in the same year as the shop's peak and made the island a different kind of problem. Church later read Mongoose as the mood that also grew assassination talk. This card is the sabotage shop that did not take Havana.
Declassified minutes show frequency of meetings and poverty of results. Exile groups were tools and problems. The White House wanted movement. The island did not move.
The spine of the file is a named shop and a government that stayed. Mongoose is 1961-63 paper. It is not a successful landing.

Bay of Pigs is the failure that made Mongoose look like movement. Minutes that meet often and change little are the mood. October 1962 then made sabotage look like a match near a tank. The shop did not survive that weather as a main tool.
Key figures
Edward Lansdale owns the coordinating chair.
CIA and Defence desks own the tasks.
The Kennedy White House owns the demand for movement.
Fidel Castro owns the government that did not fall. Exile crews own the small jobs that did not become a war.
Physical and documentary trail
On the paper, 1961-63 give you four hard objects and no taken city.
One: the Mongoose caption and Lansdale's chair.
Two: task papers for sabotage and disruption.
Three: the failure to unseat Castro.
Four: later Church use of the file. Mongoose task papers and Lansdale minutes, 1962, are the originating tray.
There is no page that makes the shop a myth. There is no successful occupation. There is no full public list of every small raid as executed.
Task papers and a government that stayed are the stay-behinds. Executed-raid lists would finish the scale. Havana staying already finishes the result.
The goal was to help Cuba overthrow the Communist regime.
Competing explanations
A serious covert war. This is the task paper. It has meetings. It has no fall of Havana.
A fantasy shop that mostly typed. Partly true of the wilder ideas. Not true of every raid.
A cover for other work only. Too narrow. The docks were on the page.
Hybrid caution. A shop was stood up. Castro stayed. The minutes are still minutes.
Later life of the case
Church and later Cuba books. I keep those on the later-life shelf. The 1962 tasks stay first.
Finding
The Kennedy White House stood up Mongoose to push Castro out by sabotage and pressure, and Castro was still there when the shop wound down. Believe the minutes. A coordinating chair does not invent weekly meetings for a later film.
What still will not resolve: a full executed-raid list, or a page that shows the shop was only typing. Either one would finish the scale. The proving object is still those raid reports, held in a file that has not come out whole.
